News of the post of an engineer based in Dehradun has gone viral on social media because he wants to achieve goals by making a high salary.
The blog post authored by Akshay Saini explains that software engineers who began their careers with low salaries must switch jobs as the only way to substantially increase their salaries.
Most companies have internal evaluation and promotion systems, but according to Saini, such schemes are “a joke” or “very low and broken”, for instance in some Indian companies.
Thus, he advised employees feeling they are underpaid not to hesitate in changing jobs saying,” If you are underpaid, don’t think too much about it and just change jobs!
“If you come from a low income bracket initially when you start working with little pays, moving out will ensure better salaries,” continues Saini stressing the importance of hopping from one job to another for those who seek fat paychecks. However, he also advised people against job-hopping motivated by pure greed; he said individuals should do so only if they believe they are not receiving what they deserve.
One commentator responded to Saini’s post stating, “It is true.” So six months later I changed my job. 6.5 LPA Reached. Next after 45 days switching again. Expected at 9.6LPA. God has been kind.
A different commenter stated: “At least every two years you should be interviewed and offered an offer; this will help you understand yourself and your current skill needs, and ask your existing organization for a match? You can either work for both sides.” The fourth suggestion adds ‘if they do’.
In addition to that there were people who agreed with Saini arguing that while good employment was important salary was equally important; others were proposing fellow workers go through interviews after set periods of time so as to get a sense of their market worth leading them into negotiations with their current employers. The article prompted a debate on job mobility and fair pay in India’s employment market.
