Lucknow: An incident took place at a railway station in Kannauj when a lintel under construction collapsed, leaving several workers trapped under the rubble.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Asim Arun said that 23 workers had been rescued from the rubble, of which 20 were slightly injured and three were seriously injured. He further added that rescue operations are on as there are fears that more people may be trapped.
“The new terminal of Kannauj railway station is under construction. Jogendra Kumar of G Kanpur Range told TOI that all the rejected laborers were safe and receiving treatment. “There are no deaths yet,” he said.
District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl, who also arrived at the spot along with other senior officials to oversee the rescue operation, said: “Initial information suggests that the roof formwork, which was under construction when the accident occurred, collapsed. “Our priority is to rescue the trapped workers and we are deploying all available resources to assist in the rescue,” he added.
Workers were carrying out beautification work at the station when the accident occurred.
Emergency teams, including police and administrative personnel, are actively involved in the ongoing rescue operations.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken notice of the incident.
He directed officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite rescue operations. The CM also directed that appropriate medical treatment be provided to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.
