Afghanistan’s team put on a terrific display as they beat New Zealand by 84 runs in Group C T20 game. Captain of Afghanistan lauds victory Rashid Khan named one of the greatest performances from these guys’ cricket, which was really good at combining disciplined batting and powerful bowling.
In their opening match against Afghanistan Ibrahim Zadran And Rahmanullah Gurbaz established the tone for their second century partnership.
Rashid Khan praising his composed performance during penalty period seven to nine talked about them being key to winning.
Despite not being injured Muji Ur Rahman, Afghanistan’s bowlers were outstanding. After setting a competitive total they (the bowlers) stuck to their pre-match strategy of limiting New Zealand’s runs on the favourable pitch surface.
“This is definitely one of our best performances especially in a T20 against a strong team like New Zealand” Rashid said while giving his speech. “It was teamwork through and through, this wasn’t just about bowling though; it was also about It was the batting, like how Ibrahim (Zadran) and (Rehmanullah) Gubaz started all over again…wickets are hard to come by.”
Both Seamer and the spinners kept a tight front and made big turns suffocating the New Zealand batsmen and limiting their scoring chances.
“Earlier we had discussed this,” he stated. “We have previously scored between 160-170 on this track and with our bowling attack, we make sure that opponents have hard times. We understand what kind of wicket will be there for bowlers too. If we keep it simple And continue hitting targets consistently in those right areas as well as , that is going to work better for us, and that is what happened today.”
“The spinners were very good but also the way seamers started when Nabi bowled in the second over – that gave us a good feeling from our spinners that the ball was turning. It is still wet but it is challenging to bowl., from wicket to wicket and the skills we have as a bowling unit, if we play to our skills (to our potential), it will be difficult for the opponents to score 160,” Rashid added.
With this victory Afghanistan leads Group C with two wins in a row. Meanwhile, New Zealand currently sits at the bottom of their group and have an uphill task trying to make it Super Eights. For them there is a big match against West Indies coming up; one which could make or break their championship aspirations.
