Netflix has announced that from next month, it will no longer support some older Samsung, Sony or even Apple TV devices; these devices will get their support removed and Netflix application won’t run on them. It also means that users will not be able to watch TV shows and movies on this platform.
What is the solution
Well, the solution is quite simple – buy a new television – but not everybody is ready to do it especially when everything else including the television itself works perfectly fineOther solutions are plain common sense.
There are two ways you can stream Netflix on your old television. Use an HDMI cord and streamer as an alternate.
This is how they both work out in practice.
Using an HDMI cable
Get an HDMI Cable, wire your laptop with it, open up a netflix web page and start watching. But now this method works as it should but there are many complicated settings involved plus it also compromises some of the main functions of the TV such as other app access, ease of control etcetera.
Use streaming sticks like Chromecast with Google TV and FireTV Stick
This method is cheap and effective. These streaming media devices are essentially software platforms running on hardware which provide full fledged smart tv experience via app support, access to necessary services among others. You can buy a Fire TV Stick for as little as Rs 2 500, connect it to the HDMI port of your TV and continue watching Netflix.
Although somewhat complicated in usage terms and less practical in long run than first one is very inexpensive all you need is an HDMI cable. However, second one works without any significant compromises. There may be some additional costs involved with those gadgets but still cheaper than buying a new television.
