New Delhi: Sanzhou Samson In excellent form and performed well against South Africa. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a stunning 50-ball 107 in Durban to lead India to a crushing 61-run victory. His aggressive knock included seven fours and ten towering sixes.
Looking back on India’s victory that took them 1-0 up in the four-match series, Samson credited the senior members of the team for helping him overcome the mental challenges of representing Team India.
“When you have a supportive captain like this Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Bhaihe Pipe Laxman Sir, they all support you in defeat,” Samson said in the post-match conference. “The way they communicate with you when you fail is very important. Everyone knows that if we are going through a negative phase, the players are lost there,” he added.
Samson’s 107 is now his highest individual score in a T20I match between India and South Africa, surpassing David Miller’s unbeaten 106 in Guwahati in 2022.
His powerful innings helped India post a stunning score of 202/8 in the first innings, earning him the Man of the Match award.
Despite a bad start Gautam GambhirSamson has bounced back strongly during his time as head coach, with impressive performances against Bangladesh and now South Africa.
“So at that time, I got a lot of calls from Gautam bhai and Surya telling me what to do,” Samson shared.
“Your spin is a bit like that. You collect all the spin balls in Kerala and practice on the rough wickets there. You do this, you do that. So if your Indian captain calls you , tells you how to chase a duck, then you are sure that the captain trusts you,” he said.
“He wants you to perform well. So I think all those little things play a huge role, I guess, back here,” Samson added.
India and South Africa will face off again in the second T20I at Gkebehar on Sunday.
