The Deoria Lok Sabha assembly constituency is one of the 80 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. It is a general category seat and falls in parts of Deoriya and Kushinagar districts.
Deoria Vidhan Sabha constituency is predominantly rural, with 81% general electorates, 15% Scheduled Castes and 11.6% Muslims. It has five assembly segments. The Congress party once dominated elections here but has been faced by stiff challenges from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party and Philippine People’s Party since 1991.
On the first of June 2024, Deoria will hold its elections in phase seven. The Bahujan Samaj Party’s Sandesh, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Shashank Mani and Indian National Congress’ Akhilesh Pratap Singh are some of the front-runners for the Lok Sabha constituency seat from Deoria in 2024.
Deoria was hard fought with a voter turnout of 57.60% during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Binod Kumar Jaiswal could only manage to poll 3,30,713 votes as opposed to his challenger Ramapati Ram Tripathi who garnered an overwhelming number of votes; over five lakh eighty thousand six hundred forty four. This translated to a margin of victory by Ramapati Ram Tripathi which was rather impressive amounting to 2,49,931 votes.
Kalraj Mishra, candidate from BJP won the seat with 51.1% and 4,96,500 votes in2014. Bahujan Samaj party’s Niyaz Ahmad polled second highest at only 27.3%, that is equivalent to two hundred sixty five thousand three hundred eighty six votes while Baleshwar Yadav came third with fifteen point five percent which is 150,852 votes. However Congress party slipped down to fourth place among these constituencies.
