In a letter to his party members, the NCP-SP State President and MLA Jayant Patil explained how there should be no rigging in vote counting like in Chandigarh.
“However, the BSP has been pretending that their exit poll is misleading since the ruling party will try to confuse voters so that they don’t turn up for elections and through this create an opportunity for corrupt officials to manipulate votes as was the case with Chandigarh,” said Mr. Patil.
By default, it relates to mayoral polls conducted earlier this year in Chandigarh where eight votes were declared invalid by the presiding officer making Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate Manoj Sonkar win.Afterwards,Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) approached Supreme Court which directed that the election official who had been cited should be prosecuted and Kuldeep Kumar of AAP was also declared as winner.
There were other things too he considered such as “is past experience any indication? “Let us therefore remain wary on the day of counting of votes without allowing such mistakes,” read a memo from the lawmaker representing Islampur
Similarly, Mr. Patil urged that patience and vigilance showed throughout polling season over a month or so ago should not be lost even today June 4 till Certificate Of Election was issued to eventual winning candidate.“During this period, however, I am afraid that ruling party may attempt to mislead and pollute the social environment but we have to remain completely cautious,” he added.
At no point did he ask his party members not leave counting centers at any time or be part of those supervising mandatory verification of five VVPATs after completions of counting.
