Bijapur: the 25-year-old girl was killed in an improvised attack that used an explosive device (IED). According to police, a Naxalite cultivator in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur region implanted an IED which exploded and killed Shanti Punem on Saturday. The blast site was about 20 kilometers from the location of last Friday’s shooting of 12 naxals near Pidiya village.
The officer disclosed that a police team moved to the area immediately they were alerted.
According to him, naxals frequently target security forces while patrolling Bastar district’s interiors where roads, dirt tracks and forests become their favorite locations for planting improvised explosive devices covering seven districts inclusive of Bijapur.
He noted that many innocent lives have perished due to such explosives planted by radicals in Bastar before now.
On April 20th, there was one man who died when an improvised missile counteracted by Naxal broke down blowing off at Gangaloor in Bijapur; on April 12th, a laborer engaged in constructing roads got killed at Mirtur within this region. Killed during another similar explosion.
A Naxalite was also reported dead after battling with security personnel along Dharmatri-Gariabandh borderlines forested areas on Sunday.
