NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketing star and commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed reservations about the current form of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2024 where, according to him, “their qualification only came through other results.”
This comes after yet another loss for Rajasthan Royals in their fourth match in a row as they went down by five wickets against Punjab Kings at Guwahati yesterday even when they had already assured themselves of a place among the top four teams.
On his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed his displeasure about the performance of Rajasthan Royals in some recent matches especially during May. “RR guys, what happened? Are you winning or qualifying only when others win? You might feel bad that why am I saying that as you won eight matches. It seems like you won those eight matches last month. Have you won a match this month? I think they haven’t won a match this month,” Chopra said.
Rajasthan Royals have struggled to score runs whenever they have batted first after winning tosses but there seems to be no intent from them whether it’s Chennai or Guwahati. Chopra asked why would anyone prepare such pitch at Guwahati?
According to Chopra it would have been better if Rajasthan Royal could play their home matches in one venue so that players can familiarize with conditions.
Chopra also examined Rajasthan Royals’ batting woes which included Yashasvi Jaiswal getting out early on and Sanju Samson not fulfilling expectations; but Riyan Parag played well despite failings collectively by team resulting in an unattainable target.
For instance, with a faltering batting line-up and losing games, especially going into the IPL playoffs as what he is concerned about now are improvements required is for better results from RR than before
