NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill is a promising talent in Indian cricket, but he has not abandoned his roots as can be seen during the Sunrisers Hyderabad-Gujarat Titans match on Thursday that was called off due to rain.
As the game was cancelled before toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad advanced to playoffs of IPL while 2022 winners Gujarat Titans were eliminated at it already.
A video trending online now shows that Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans visited Abhishek Sharma’s family.
In the clip, Gill is seen bending down and touching Abhishek’s mother’s feet in typical Indian style. In this heartwarming video, she even slaps him on the back and blesses him for this act of love and devotion. Similarly, Gill warmly shakes hands with Abhishek’s sister.
IPL may have made them opponents but both Gill and Abhishek go far back when they used to play for Punjab in domestic cricket. And they featured together for India in a victorious campaign at U19 World Cup in 2018.
Speaking about Gill during an interview with TOI last year, Abhishek said rather than rivaling anything with India’s opening batsman, he has always had great relations with him.
“We’ve been playing together since under-12s so we still have that bond till now. He has been doing really well for India lately; he always pushes me up to do well. The way he takes control of things makes him want me to play like that where I dominate every match every season too. I learn a lot from him.”
“Since he goes on tours or while shooting some film these days we talk very rarely these days – sometimes we could talk properly together about cricket though,” added Sharma during interaction.
While Gill scored 426 runs in 12 matches played in IPL 2024, Sharma recorded 401 runs by featuring in same number of games all through.
Also, Sharma would be looking to increase his tally during the playoffs and help Sunrisers Hyderabad clinch their second IPL title.
