There have been suggestions made by Ex-England Captain, Michael Vaughan about future plans of Indian Cricket Superhero, Virat Kohli; indicating that the prolific batsman may consider an early retirement than expected.
Normally, Indian cricketers retire around 39-40 years old. Nonetheless, Kohli, who is currently 35 years old has shown no signs of slowing his pace. Though the reason for this change was different with regard to his family dynamics according to Vaughan.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Vaughan pointed out some developments in the life of Kohli particularly his focus on his family. For example, during a five match test series between India and England he was absent because of the birth of his son Akaay which indicated that he had other priorities.“A brilliant season. You talk about retirement with Virat Kohli,I look at this,” said Vaughan “in a way where he can play for a really long time – he’s just fit like that unless something goes in his head and obviously now he’s got young family.” After two or three years everything changes and all what one wants is just to have a quiet moment I totally understand that” commented Vaughan.
Vaughan continued weighing on Kohli’s doing ordinary things during the break from India-England series.
“I think when we played against England, he went back to London and led a normal life as far as I know,” said the commentator.“Some comments and quotes from him are quite interesting; it felt like he enjoyed every bit of it going by what i read.” So maybe cricket might not be there if Virat feels like going away for some time and taking some rest quietly” added Vaughan.
However, these assumptions notwithstanding Kohli’s field performance remains outstanding. In the latest season alone, he scored 741 runs with a strike rate above 155 showing how flexible and resilient he could be especially against spinners. His dedication to improving himself as a player, like his idol Sachin Tendulkar, is apparent in his relentless work ethic and innovation behind the scenes.
“He’s a proper player,” said Vaughan “His game is obviously up there with the greats of the game, but it’s just the way he’s gone to another level to survive in this modern era of T20 cricket. He has got that game, he’s got that mindset, he would have had that work ethic in the nets to develop his sweep shot.” The former captain lauded.
The commentator also added on Kohli’s aura while playing on field which could be seen from how energetic he has been and sometimes talking to fans and media men alike.
“I love his energy. He causes a bit of chaos in the game; he gives it to the camera and keeps fingers on his mouth to shut them up now and again, but sports need such characters. Those who can keep you going, keep you on the edge of your seat, cause a little controversy,” he said.
