A few ships including the admiral gorshkov frigate and the kazan nuclear powered submarine arrived in Havana this week after the Russian war ship.
Russian, Canadian and American ships in Cuba reflect bad memories of Cold War times.
Notwithstanding, both countries USA and Cuba have claimed that there is no danger to their respective regions. In addition, Russia said that its ally Cuba was merely receiving a casual call from the warships.
This comes even as the Russian Defense Ministry indicated that before docking at Havana on Wednesday, Admiral Gorshkov frigate and Kazan submarine had conducted training with “high-precision missile weapons” in Atlantic Ocean.
Besides, Canadian Joint Operations Command also termed Margaret Brooke’s visit as ‘a port visit in recognition of the long-standing bilateral relationship between Canada and Cuba.’
Cuba’s foreign ministry said that it was informed about arrival of US submarine but it was dissatisfied by it.
Usually a naval visit to any country is at request but this one looks different. Obviously we do not like an existence on our territory of submarines belonging to a country that officially and de faсto follows hostile policy towards Cuba,” said Carlos Fernandez de Cosio, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Department
During Soviet era Russia had intimate relationship with Cuba which was heated up by 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis when Washington felt threatened with communism in its “backyard”.
The Russian warship will remain at Havana port until Monday.
