Rishabh Pant, a young wicket-keeper-batsman who recently came back after missing 15 months following a near-fatal accident was noticed with some of the Indian players while they were leaving for New York where ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is being held on Saturday. This was as fans gave him a hero’s welcome and he also met up with his previous team mates at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to take selfies.
Saturday had Rishabh Pant post a photo together with his teammates, among them were Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
In IPL 2024, Pant led Delhi Capitals to finish sixth in the table with 14 points from as many games which meant that they missed out on the play off spot. He also had good success with bat having scored 446 runs in 13 games at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40.
The first group of Indian team that included Captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid arrived at Mumbai airport on Saturday for their late night flight to New York where the Men’s T20 World Cup will begin on June 1st this year.
Social media visuals showed the first batch leaving through Dubai along with players not involved in the final stages of IPL 2024 matches.
Departing tomorrow are Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed (all reserve players), Arshdeep Singh, Surya Kumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Rohit Sharma Ravindra Jadeja etc., alongwith those who are part of the playing XI such as Mohammed Siraj Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.
Neither Virat Kohli nor Hardik Pandya appeared in departure visuals; it has been reported that Pandya is presently in London but he may join up with the team from there.
Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and two of the reserve players Avesh Khan and Rinku Singh are scheduled to join the Indian team in New York in a couple of days’ time.
