According to Ashton Agar, an Australian bowler, taking a sunset catamaran ride on Barbados’ blue waters was the best way for his team to bond together before becoming serious about winning the T20 World Cup.
The reigning Test and one-day global champions have had a laid-back build-up as they await teammates to arrive from the Indian Premier League. They are commencing their competition on Wednesday against minnows Oman.
Every player was on deck by Saturday, while Agar mentioned that the beach-based team had some beers in between cruising trips along the Caribbean coast.
“We are not actually sitting on top of this as we’re coming back last night,” spinner Agar told reporters.
‘Stoin (Marcus Stoinis) said so he goes ‘I don’t know if many other teams would be like this where you got all the boys just sitting on top of it watching the sun go down having a beer together and really enjoying being with one another.’
“It was incredibly easy to forget you were here for a World Cup because it’s just beautiful.
“However, it is great for starter.”
Mitchell Marsh’s side that won cricket’s World Cup and Test titles last year could become history by becoming the first country ever to hold all three main global trophies.
By co-hosting with US which has very little following in cricket, this tournament has stretched game boundaries further than before.
USA started off as dominant winners over arch-rivals Canada in Dallas due to New Yorker Aaron Jones hitting 94 runs in front of a small crowd in Dallas on Saturday.
“Great opening game. For US, Canada to have a game like that, it’s a great start to the tournament,” said Agar.
“I’m pumped for those guys, I think they would have loved it and it’s good for world cricket.”
