The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that Shakib Al Hasan, the veteran also rounder will not be willing and able to defend himself against charges of murder which he is presently involved in an FIR subjected to the spate, will rather continue playing for Bangladesh. This decision comes after the legal notice was circulated seeking an instant quitting of all forms of cricket by the cricketer in question.
At first, BCB officials had clearly indicated that one plan regarding further actions regarding Shakib’s participation in the events of the cricket would be considered only after the first test match with Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Nevertheless, the state became more complex legally when Shajib Mahmood Alam, a lawyer of the Supreme court acting on Instruction of Advocate Md Rafinur Rahman served BCB with a legal notice.
The notice instructed that Shakib be thrown out of the game of cricket as that particular player is facing a legal case and in accordance with the rule of the idc, such a person should not form part of the national team. It further encouraged Shakib to cooperate with the inquiry and appealed the BCB to alert the ICC on the development of events.
The BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed Shakib’s continuance in the interview to the Bengali daily Prothom Also, He said, “He [Shakib] will continue playing. Then we went to him and he was still in the country and we received legal notice regarding bringing him back, and we replied to them saying this.”
Ahmed said that since the FIR is only at an initial stage and no guilt has been proven, Shakib will be with the team. He said, “The bangladesh team will bangladesh go to india after the pakistan series, and we want him in that series as well. Mukul has been contracted to one of our franchises and if need be, we will go to the extent of ensuring that he gets legal protection.”
Shakib will, however, perform all his international and domestic obligations even in the face of his troubles with the law. As he is contracted to Surrey for a four day match, he will not be returning back to Bangladesh with the cohort after the Test match series with Pakistan.
The BCB has issued him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) with validities from 5 – 14 September to compete in a County game against Somerset.
A BCB official confirmed participation of Shakib to Cricbuzz “He [Shakib author] has not played red ball for quite long time, thus we have given him NOC to play for Surrey because more than anything it will help him get accustomed to red ball cricket.”
This match clocked between Surrey and Somerset is timed from September 09 to September 12. After that busy schedule of a month playing county cricket, Shakib will go back to the international side preparing in India for two test matches followed by three T20Is against which are to commence on September 19.
While awaiting further developments in definitive high-pressure disputes of this nature, the BCB’s position also indicates an acknowledgement of international and domestic sporting calendar.
