COLOMBO: For the Australian Test tour in 2022, the Indian selectors are considering including left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh who has so far only played limited-overs cricket. During India’s T20 World Cup triumph, he caught the eye and there is a talk that he might be part of the test squad for this year’s Australia tour.
Both Farooqi and Singh took 17 wickets apiece in the tournament to finish as joint top wicket takers.
“Arshdeep has been able to swing the ball beautifully [sic] during white ball matches for India. He may be made to play some red ball domestic games if only from Duleep Trophy starting on September 5th, in order to enhance his potential chances of being picked for Australia tour. In fact there is a strong likelihood that he could be India’s secret weapon along with Bumrah against Australia.”
The Parami News source said: “Actually it was because of an additional left-arm pace option needed in white-ball side or at least they wanted that which explains why Khaleel Ahmed toured Zimbabwe and is set to figure out both ODIs and T20Is series against Sri Lanka.”
Parag had a chance due to Varma injury
Sources close to Parami News have indicated that Riyan Parag has been chosen for both squads going on Sri Lanka tours because middle-order batsman Tilak Varma is injured at present.
“Parag is highly skilled and has transformed his mindset towards cricket by many notches. He wants now to occupy crease. Apart from having reasonable bowling skills, he is also one hell of a fielder. The selectors want him nurtured,” added one of the sources.
That is why Harshit Rana was selected in ODI team simply because they identified him as someone who could be nurtured into a specific role. “He can bowl yorkers, slower balls and employ other variations at the death. That makes him a good option in white-ball cricket,” added the source.
