It was expected that Captain of India Rohit Sharma would get well from his injured bicep before the long-anticipated match against Pakistan at Nassau County T20 World Cup on Sunday. But concerns are being raised about pitch conditions in Nassau County for this highly anticipated bout.
Rohit Sharma, during India’s opener, was cannoned on the right bicep by Josh Little’s delivery from Ireland. He had to retire injured after scoring a half-century since he was bowled short from length which improved his conditioning. Although Rohit is expected to join the next two practice sessions with minor injuries, yet, there’s been a great concern for safety based on the ground condition.
The source added: “It is not very serious injury for him and it is quite sore.” The same thing was uttered by himself about his personal state. Now he should be able to face Pakistan.”
Nassau County’s pitch has been described as semi-dangerous and inappropriate for T20 cricket due to its unevenness and numerous cracks. These situations lead to unpredictable bounce that could end up harming players.
“Let them have some practice games so that they can make the wicket proper,”. Said former England captain Michael Vaughan and other experts who gave an unfriendly comment about the track.
“It is actually a brand new course here. A fair amount of grass but huge cracks again. So it will seem but then it will also go off length.” Said someone close to Indian team quoted by a close source from IPL Pulse TV,. “But when it comes down into this kind of situation like what you do in beta testing with new software applications before you release them into market places here at track” because none four of these tracks seems like no one really wants to play T20 cricket”.
Despite all these issues, India Team Management isn’t willing to file any formal complaint against the track. Nonetheless; it happened so; particularly during Ireland’s match where conditions of the pitch made for life threatening bounces.
“The source added, “We should be glad that Rohit and Rishabh are okay. They didn’t get hurt.” Both players actually got close to getting injured during the game but they did not suffer any serious injury.
Ireland’s Harry Tech has to undergo a mandatory concussion test after being hit by Jasprit Bumrah with a heavy object at first his glove, and then his helmet was tapped.
The Star Sports Channel showed its dissatisfaction with the track through Irrfan Pathan who used to represent India in world cricket. He has said: “We do want to promote cricket in USA, but this is not a safe pitch for players. If we had such a pitch in India. It would have never hosted any game certainly even if it is not just a bilateral series rather than a world cup”
