NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings, in a move that has never been seen before in the Indian Premier League, have made their name in history today by going into battle with only one international player among the eleven.
Punjab Kings faced Sunrisers Hyderabad where they had South African batsman Rilee Rossouw as the team’s only foreigner.
This has happened because some players left due to injury or national duties which had to be attended back home.
Injury kept regular captain Shikhar Dhawan out of this game and he was replaced by stand-in skipper Sam Curran as Jitesh Sharma took on the leadership role during the game.
With Kagiso Rabada returning home injured and Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone set to take part in a T20I series against Pakistan this week make things worse for PBKS.
Fast Aussie bowler Nathan Ellis who played previous match to Rajasthan Royals missed the game against SRH.
Because all overseas players are gone gone we don’t have many options. It’s only Rilee Rossouw who is going to play. We hope there will be exciting opportunities for our youngsters and they will look forward to delivering their best today. We come here to play good cricket nothing is at stake today,” said Jitesh at the toss.
