BHOPAL: Former Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur took to social media to share her health condition after the NIA court issued her a bail order of Rs 10,000. The court directed her to appear before November 13 in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast case.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Thakur shared a photo of his face with visible swelling. She wrote: “Congressional torture has been the cause of unbearable pain throughout my life, not just during my ATS detention, but throughout my life. I suffer from brain swelling, impaired vision, Suffering from hearing loss, speech imbalance and swelling all over my body, I am currently in hospital receiving steroids and neurological medication and will definitely be going to court if I am still alive.
Thakur’s supporters say she is currently being treated in a Delhi hospital for severe swelling in her face and difficulty seeing, which she attributes to side effects of medication taken while in detention.
The NIA court issued the bail order on November 6 after Thakur failed to attend the court hearing earlier due to health issues. The court had earlier allowed her to stay in Mumbai for treatment on condition that she appear in court if possible. However, at a hearing on November 5, the court rejected her request for immunity and said she must appear in court, especially since the case is now in its final stages.
Thakur is one of the seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, in which six people were killed and more than 100 others killed in a bomb attack in Malegaon, Maharashtra on September 29, 2008 Injuried. The accused include Lt Col (retd) Thakur Prasad Purohit, Major (retd) Ramesh Upadhyay and four others.
Earlier this year, in March, Thakur was issued a similar bail order of Rs 10,000 for failing to appear for a hearing. The fresh arrest warrant has also been fixed at Rs 10,000 and requires her to appear before the court by November 13.
The case against the seven accused continues and the NIA court is expected to deliver its verdict soon as the trial nears its final stages.
