Three independents completed the tally in the 147-seat Assembly with 78 seats, 51 seats for the RSS, 14 seats for the Congress and 1 seat for the CPM. Naveen himself lost one of the two seats – Kantabanji – but managed to win Hinjili, making it his sixth consecutive victory.
The Bharatiya Janata Party achieved a historic victory in the Odisha Lok Sabha polls, bagging an unprecedented 20 out of 21 seats, a significant improvement over the previous eight seats in 2019.
The BJD failed to win a single seat, losing all its 21 candidates, compared with 12 seats in 2019. seats.
The result has plunged the BJD, which has dominated Odisha’s political landscape for nearly 25 years under Naveen’s leadership, into an existential crisis. Since joining politics after the death of his father Biju Patnaik in 1997, Naveen has been in hot demand, first as a Union minister in 1998-1999 and then as the chief minister.
