Hailing from Tuticorin, Raja’s career got off to a good start as he qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games at a young age. Although he finished sixth, he gained a lot of experience. Although his career was on an upward trajectory, Raja was injured during the 2019 Commonwealth Championships and it took him a long time to get back on the court.
“I had surgery but could not recover properly due to Covid-19. I could not play any matches for almost two years. I had to leave the national training camp midway and find a private physiotherapist for rehabilitation. After two months, I recovered Get 100% ready and start competing.explain.
While Raja was slowly getting back on track, some health issues hampered his progress. He was diagnosed with jaundice in August 2022 and subsequently had to undergo tests appendicitis surgery. Therefore, Raja did not train for nearly 10 months. Frustrated by his extended absence from competition, he considered quitting the sport and explored joining research related to it.
“I am here University of Kalinga Undertaken a three month internship in Odisha. One of my seniors, Sidiq, worked there and he told me to take this course and said it (the course) would be helpful in my career. Before taking the course, I had no knowledge of exercise science. But now, I know what I need to do in training and how to prevent injuries. The classes helped understand how hard I had to train and helped me understand my body,” added Raja.
During his internship, Raja became interested in weightlifting again. With Siddique’s support, he started training again. “After all the struggles, I had no confidence that I could do well. But after the course, I somehow started training again. Siddiq pushed me to focus on training and the journey started again.”
Within a year of his return, the Raja established his authority. If Raja reaches 300kg and above, he will become a force to be reckoned with in global events.
