NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings are set to play their final league game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, and speculations about MS Dhoni’s probable retirement continue to circulate around.
However, a former India and CSK cricketer Robin Uthappa has given his opinion that Dhoni is not done playing yet.
In an interview with JioCinema, Uthappa tackled the question of whether MS’ run will be his last for CSK. “Coming to CSK, is this MS’s last run? I don’t think so, personally, I don’t think so. But, do they want to spoil RCB’s party? Definitely. Ruturaj, I think wants to get into knockout stage in his first season as captain that will be a huge confidence booster for him and for CSK. It’s something if any one can see far, let us see where it goes,” he said. The match against RCB is crucial for both teams as playoffs spots are at stake. At present, CSK currently occupies fourth place in the standings with 14 points after 13 games while RCB is sixth with 12 points from 13 matches. A win for CSK would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs whereas RCB need a win plus some favorable results from other matches in order to keep their hopes alive.
This season Dhoni has delivered impactful performances in short bursts; scoring 161 runs off 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 226.66 shows how valuable he still remains in the team.
The build-up towards this game has been further heightened by just Indian cricket’s two giants being involved: Dhoni and Virat Kohli.A century plus five half centuries sees him leading the “orange cap” race with six hundreds under his belt prior to today’s clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium Bengaluru.
However, despite all these rumours, Uthappa’s confidence in Dhoni continuing offers a ray of hope to CSK fans who want more from their great captain.
