Vijayakumari, 64, her husband Pavithran, 65, and granddaughter Bhagyalekshmi, 21, were attacked by Biju, a local of Vattapara, near Nalanchira.
Biju was arrested by police on Sunday morning and was remanded in custody after appearing in court.
Biju’s wife Manju, a former staff member of KSRTC, died three years ago and since then, Biju often quarreled with his in-laws demanding that Manju’s ancestral property be registered in his name.
On Saturday night, the accused broke into the house armed with an iron rod and hit Parvisran on the head several times.
When Parvisran collapsed during the attack, Vijayakumari and Bhagyalakshmi ran out of the house to escape him. But he pursued them and attacked them cruelly with an iron rod. Neighboring residents saw the woman being beaten and came to the rescue. Meanwhile, the accused fled from there. The police reported that the injured was quickly sent to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
