After their final match against Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League 2024, New Delhi: Captain of Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul expressed disappointment with the team’s performances in overall in the last 17th edition of the cash-rich league.
LSG ended their season on a high note even though they only managed to finish fifth on the table with 14 points from 14 matches played.
At the end of game interview he gave a lighthearted comment. He said jokingly, “I am his son-in-law now. For now we will cheer for Sharma ji ka beta at World Cup.” It means that he will support Rohit led Indian team in upcoming T20 world cup.
Moreover, Rahul narrated “Very disappointing. In the beginning of this tournament I did strongly feel that we had constructed an extremely powerful squad and most bases covered. A couple of injuries – happen to every team. We didn’t play well enough collectively. Today was a really good performance.” This is what we want to do more often today but it did not happen.”
High cost and hard work done by LSG over their Indian fast bowlers were all commended by Rahul.
“He also mentioned happiness for them – its not just two months in a year, they have invested lot of time & energy with them, We sent Mayank and Yudhvir to South Africa; Morne Morkel trained them. Hard work has paid off for these kids but the franchise has worked so much with them,” he added.
In addition, this 32 years old also reflected about his personal experiences and his plans for future prospects.
“There’s not much T20 cricket coming up now. It’s been a season where I’ve learnt a lot about my own batting and what I need to do to get back in the team. Maybe middle-order, maybe not.” We’d ideally wanted him (Pooran) to bat higher, but with how the team’s lined up, we want our senior international players to bat in positions where they can absorb pressure. Didn’t want our two overseas batters to bat close together,” explained Rahul.
Rahul noted that LSG had a difficult season but the batsman also speaks about how he hopes future opportunities will take him forward as a cricketer.
