The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in various parts of the country. Bihari including West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Sivan, Saran, Vaishali, PatnaJehanabad, Madhubani and Bhojpur, the officials said, on Saturday.
The state disaster management department has asked the administration in these areas to be alert and take appropriate preventive actions as per the weather forecasts issued.
“The report purports that there is a possibility of these areas experiencing insignificant to normal flash floods within the next 24 hours,” the report states.
Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Munger, and Bhagalpur Sujkree still 12 district slicing the Ganga rivers and streams suffering from harsh rains flash floods river water level has risen.
About 1.35 million people inhabiting flood prone and low lying areas, have been affected by the floods. Many of the affected people have already been rescued and are in officiator camps.
Flood warning issued by the Bihar Water Resources Department suitable areas available for states where the Kosi and Gandak rivers level is alarmingly widening. Officials say that water levels of many rivers in the state have been on the rise for the last two to three days owing to the incessant downpour.
Furthermore, heavy rains in the river basins of Nepal have resulted in several rivers in border areas getting to critical levels or exceeding it.
Taking into account how serious the matter was, Bihar administration also opened some gates of Valmiki Nagar Dam on Gandak to release water to the extend of 6.87 lakh cft at 8 am on Saturday.
In a similar manner, as per the bulletin issued by Ministry of Water Resources, the water released from Kosi Birpur barrage at the said time was 7.54 lakh cubic feet as well.
