Rashtriya Lok Morcha MP Upendra Kushwaha on Saturday, September 28, 2024 sentenced the attack on the Bihar students in West Bengal as sad. On September 27, the police of Bagdogra Commemorate Police under Siliguri Police arrested two persons suspected of using intimidation or harassment towards two youths who had come to Siliguri from Bihar to sit their examination.
The accused, Rajat Bhattacharya and Giridhari Roy, living in Siliguri, West Bengal, have been associated with a Bangla Pokkho ‘Bengali cultural interest group’.
The Youth-Riot Incident was also covered by channels along with the protests which followed after the Youth-Riot videos had gone viral, and faced extreme backlash. Further, the students in the viral video are shown resting in a room when a bunch of raiders barged in and queried if they understand Bengali. One of the students replied back that they didn’t, and the raiders started to interrogate them in an ugly manner, arguing that such students cross the state line and sit for examination in other states where students are not allowed to.
One of the students tried to clarify that a durbar of exam centres was required in Siliguri, implying that he had no choice and they made him show the papers. Biswachand Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Siliguri, updated the media that, he was followed up with two arrested accused persons by the Bagdogra police on Thursday September 26, 2024 after some complaint.
