At 43, M.S Dhoni, a legendary cricketer and a former Indian captain remains uncertain about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid speculations that he might participate in the 2025 edition.
“Do not be quick to assume. We must wait for their decision regarding retention of players etc. For now, we are still on the sidelines of this game. When formalities go through, I will decide but whatever I decide should be in favor of the team,” quoted Parami News.
Dhoni recently declared Bumrah as his favorite bowler praising him for his consistency particularly during the T20 World Cup campaign which India won. “Bumrah is there so it’s easy to pick my favorite bowler,” said Dhoni pointing out how important Bumrah has been to India’s cause with his economy rate at an average of 4.17 after he took 15 wickets.
On being asked about who his favourite batsman is, Dhoni avoided naming any individual preferring instead to assert that the Indian batting line-up had several good players. “Amongst batters it’s tough because whoever I see batting they look best but as long as Team India is winning, I don’t want to pick a batter (as my favourite). I hope they will keep scoring runs for the team,” said Dhoni
Dhoni’s statements come against a backdrop of uncertainty over mega auction rules and ‘Impact Player’ rule among IPL franchises with BCCI actively talking to team owners on these matters.
While cricket fans worldwide eagerly anticipate Dhoni’s choice, he carefully chooses words that indicate thoughtful consideration and team-first principles which have been hallmarks of his illustrious career.
