NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals director Sourav Ganguly has expressed his belief that the young Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was not included in the T20 World Cup squad, still has a long way to go.
Fraser-McGurk, 22, had a good run for Delhi Capitals this season with 330 runs from nine matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at an astounding strike rate of over 234 runs per game.
However, despite being praised by Ricky Ponting and David Warner of Delhi as well as his fellow Australian Capital teammates for being brave during his hitting innings and missing out on Australia’s World Cup selection in June.
During the victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, Ganguly stated about Jake; “Hes been mentored by Ricky. He is hungry to do really well.”.
According to former India captain Ganguly he said “I know he missed out on the World Cup; actually Australia should probably have picked him up.”
“However, with so many good players like Warner, Travis Head and Marsh at three you are bound to miss out,”ďż˝saidďż˝the ex-India skipper.
“Nonetheless, he is only twenty-two and he has more years ahead.
“For us it’s all about individuals like this who change games which are needed in this format.”
After going unsold at the IPL auction, Fraser-McGurk replaced South African pacer Lungi Ngidi in Delhi due to injury.
In an interview with AFP last month; The T20 world cup in West Indies and USA was not at all there at my front brain=。~he told them.
Ponting describes him as a “brilliant talent” with a dash of David Warner-like tenacity which is quite evident through his attacking approach, effortless sixes.
