Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash on Monday, and India has declared a national day of mourning. The Jaishankar visited Iranian embassy in New Delhi expressed deep condolences.
Jaishankar said: “President Lacey and foreign minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian will be remembered as friends in india”.
I went to the Iranian Embassy at Delhi today to express my deepest regrets over this incident. It’s tragic that President Ibrahim Raisi and my colleague, Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdullahian passed away yesterday. They were true friends of India who played an immense role in development of the country-India-Iran relations.The Indian government stands united in its stance on this issue Our thoughts are with the people of Iran during these trying times,” S Jaishankar posted on X.
Tuesday was marked by flags flown at half mast on all official buildings after the death of Lacey.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will travel to Tehran to attend the funeral services for Ibrahim Raisi and other officials.

In Tabriz (northwestern city), thousands of Iranians came out for demonstrations that commenced today which marked the burial ceremony of Raisi whose chopper had crashed on Sunday.
Also, Indian president Murmu as well as Prime minister Narendra Modi expressed their sympathies for Iranian government and its people like other countries did.
On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on the death of Iranian president. In his post on X, Prime Minister Modi said that it was with a heavy heart he learned about Raisi’s passing and added that the deceased had played an important part in strengthening bilateral relations between India and Iran.

In addition, Khamenei announced five days of mourning for Lacey along with a public holiday during which all offices would remain closed.
However, in New Delhi, Iranian embassy opened a book of condolence for late president, other officials who died as well as foreign visitors.
Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi died together with his Foreign Minister when their helicopter crashed while crossing mountainous areas in thick fog. On board was also an airplane carrying other officials that disappeared in North-western Iran’s mountains.
