Bangladesh took steps towards clinching the Test match as they romped past Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test of the two-match series at Rawalpindi cricket stadium on Tuesday, September 3. After suffering a ten-wicket defeat in the opening Test of the series some days back in the same venue, Shan Masood and his team had to win to even the series. Nevertheless, the hosts failed to win yet again which handed them their first ever Test series defeat to Bangladesh.
This knock too proved detrimental to Pakistan’s resolve of booking a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.
At this moment Pakistan stands at the bottom placed eighth in the WTC 2023-25 points table due to five rubbers unfurling in a row.
In spite of these current disasters, they still have options for a ticket against this final which is to take place in June 2025 at Lord’s.
Only the top two teams can qualify for the final according to the rules and regulation of WTC.
Although they lost consecutive last two Test series to their opponents, Pakistan are not yet out of the race for the top two.
But to do this, they are that all the remnants of the combination of three further series of this cycle of the WTC will be sweep. Plus, it will be important to follow how some of the rival good teams perform.
The next challenges for Pakistan include a three-match Test series against England at home starting from October 7 in Multan, where the bulk of the action occurs, followed by contests in Karachi (October 15-19) and Rawalpindi (October 24-28) in other cities.
This will be followed by a two-match Test series for South Africa in December 2024-January 2025 and then in January 2025, Pakistan will welcome the West Indies for another two-match Test series.
In these seven continuing Tests, if Pakistan manages to win all of them, the PCT% of Pakistan will improve from 19.05 to 59.52 in terms of whitewashing the opposition.
Although they cannot go beyond india (68.52 PCT%) and australia (62.50 PCT%) in the first and second spots namely in that order in the WTC points table who are going to be better of the pakistani lateral career is concerned, these five match series which follow between these two teams might provide an opportunity for Pakistan to finish within two first two slots.
As for Pakistan, the last seven Tests remaining will determine whether they remain in the qualification frame and on what level will they advance to or it is the end of the road for them.
