We have also completely banned online delivery and sales of any type of firecrackers.”

Rai highlighted the government’s proactive efforts in banning firecrackers over the past few years, a measure that is part of the Blackjack Winter Action Plan to combat toxic air during the cold months. The government’s decision to ban firecrackers, which was first implemented in 2017 following a Supreme Court inquiry into their impact on the capital’s air quality, is therefore not new.
In 2018, the SC banned all traditional firecrackers in the National Capital Region of Delhi but allowed green firecrackers without the use of barium salts. However, due to the difficulty in distinguishing green firecrackers from traditional firecrackers, the government has imposed a complete ban on setting off firecrackers every winter since 2020.
