The Dallas Cowboys’ already struggling season took another blow on Sunday when quarterback Dak Prescott was forced to leave the game against the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury. With Prescott out for the second half, backup quarterback Cooper Rush took over, but the Cowboys still lost 27-21, adding to the team’s recent woes.

Dak Prescott’s injury could end his season
The big question now is how long Prescott will be out. Team owner Jerry Jones has not yet provided a specific timetable for his return. However, after the game, Prescott said he “felt something I’ve never felt before” in his hamstring. He confirmed he will undergo an MRI on Monday but is unsure how it will affect his playing time.
There are reports that Prescott may have a partially torn right hamstring tendon, a serious injury that has team officials considering whether surgery may be necessary. If surgery is required, Prescott’s season could be over. The quarterback is reportedly seeking a second opinion before making any decisions.
Jones said on his weekly 105.3 The Fan radio show that Prescott could be headed to injured reserve (IR). However, head coach Mike McCarthy later clarified that no decision has been made on IR, so Prescott is not guaranteed to miss at least four weeks.
Jones, while concerned about Prescott’s injury, expressed optimism that the Cowboys can still turn things around. “I really feel sorry for all of us Dallas Cowboys fans,” Jones said after the Falcons game, but he remained hopeful of a rebound.
The Cowboys’ playoff hopes are starting to fade, especially considering their history. They’ve only made the playoffs once after a 3-5 start, and that was in 2018 when they acquired Amari Cooper. If Prescott is placed on IR, he could return as early as Dec. 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but by then, Dallas may already be out of a playoff spot.
