co-founder of apple Steve Jobs He left a meaningful message in one of his final gifts to friends and colleagues: a ‘autobiography of a yogi‘ by Hindu Gurus Paramahansa Yoganandacomes in a simple brown box. A few years after his death, he spoke at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff shared that the book focuses on self-actualization and reflects Jobs’ strong belief in intuition and looking inward.
“That’s his message,” Benioff explained. “Realize yourself. He realized incredibly that his intuition was his greatest gift and that he needed to see the world from the inside out.
Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011, at the age of 56. Jobs had been battling a rare form of pancreatic cancer called neuroendocrine tumor, which was first diagnosed in 2004.
Steve Jobs planned his memorial service: Salesforce CEO
Benioff, a close friend of Steve Jobs and an early collaborator on the Macintosh project, also revealed a little-known side of Jobs—his deep spirituality.
In the final days of his life, Steve Jobs demonstrated his signature attention to detail by planning every aspect of the memorial. He hand-picked the speakers, the guest list, and even the performers—Bono and Yo-Yo Ma played to his vision. As guests left, each was given a copy of the book, which contained Jobs’ parting words about the value of reflection and self-discovery.
“I know this was a deliberate decision on his part,” Benioff said. “This gift was the last thing he wanted us to think about.”
What makes this book so special for Steve Jobs
this book “Autobiography of a Yogi” It means a lot to Steve. As Walter Isaacson noted in his biography, he first read the book as a teenager, several years later in India, and then annually.
Benioff’s advice to Apple
Benioff also talked about how Jobs’ message has guided Apple as the company faces fierce competition. With Samsung and Google’s Android devices outselling Apple’s iPhones and iPads and its stock price down 30% in the past year, Benioff encouraged Apple to rediscover its true identity.
“For Apple, they need to find themselves and become themselves,” he said. “In a lot of ways, they’re still trying to be him. But they just have to stay true to themselves. Honor the past and, as Steve said, ‘plan for the future.’
