Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered for food to be provided free of cost at Amma Unavagams in Chennai on Saturday (November 30, 2024).
According to an official statement, amid heavy rains due to Cyclone Fengal, Mr. Stalin visited the State Emergency Operations Centre at the Ezhilagam complex in Chennai. Through video conferencing, he held a review meeting with the District Collectors of Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and Chengalpattu to discuss the precautionary measures in place.
He instructed the Collectors to take all the necessary measures, shift people in the affected areas to relief camps in advance, and provide them with necessary food and other basic amenities.
Mr. Stalin also instructed authorities to clear waterlogging immediately using pumps, besides removing the fallen trees and addressing electricity-related complaints immediately. He also instructed officials to conduct medical camps.
Mr. Stalin interacted with the people stationed at a relief camp in Chengalpattu district.
Three disaster relief teams have been deployed in Chennai, and 18 disaster relief teams in total have been sent to the affected districts.
The official statement also advised the public not to venture out unless necessary and not to go to the seashore to witness the cyclone. It also sought cooperation from the public for the disaster relief measures.
Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, and Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam were present during the Chief Minister’s visit.
