NEW DELHI: IPL broadcaster Star Sports on Monday refuted rumors that it aired any personal conversation of Rohit Sharma. This comes after India’s captain accused the channel of “intruding” into his privacy despite him pleading for the recording to be stopped.
Rohit was heard asking the broadcasters to mute the audio while he was being recorded in a chat with Kolkata Knight Riders’ Abhishek Nayar during an IPL match.
He has also blamed the channel for broadcasting this private talk.
In reply, the channel made a statement denying these claims.
“The clip came from a May 16 training session at Wankhede stadium during which senior player is seen talking with his friends on the sidelines. However nothing from this conversation could be heard as well as no one broadcasted.”
This clip was shown live by Star Sports in their pre-match coverage of pre-match preparations, this represented its sole editorial relevance,” added Star Sports.
KKR posted audio of the conversation leading to speculation about Rohit’s future at Mumbai Indians.
Consequently, KKR had to pull down their video.
“The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail,” Rohit had said on his social media account on Sunday.
Accordingly, “The broadcaster remains committed to respecting players’ privacy while delivering moments of intense fanfare and preparation,” it says.”
