NEW DELHI: 51.63% of AIBE 18 students failed, as an RTI reply indicated. According to the Bar Council of India (BCI), out of the 1,44,014 students who had taken part in the test; only 69,646 succeeded. The examination was held on December 10 last year and acceded by a Right to Information petition filed by Shibu Babu reveals that there were 1,48,781 candidates who sat for the exam but they were joined by over four thousand seven hundred others.
The Career360 news portal reported that because of COVID-19 pandemic disruptions in scheduling it is conducted twice in a year according to BCI. The BCI also stated that the scores for AIBE XVIII are based on ninety-three questions after taking out seven questions. The third category will be given forty-two marks out of fifty marks giving sixty percent (31 marks). This decision was made by Senior Oversight Committee and approved by the Board of Governors.
The response from BCI claims that these details do not fall under section two o f RTI act therefore cannot be shared with publics and this is why they are not included in scores of AIBE score card. State bar does not have any statistics about passing or failure rate among those participating in its exams too since it admits such information would be hypothetical or speculative thereby contravening Supreme Court ruling applicable to sharing either imputation or conclusion data. Thus, though authorities have liberty to consult other bodies or supply their views voluntarily under Right To Information Act, this is not mandatory bestowed upon them according to BCI
