NEW DELHI: Pat Cummins, captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, has called upon his team to forget about their recent painful defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders and concentrate on IPL Qualifier.
Qualifier 1 postponed on Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad held this Tuesday saw Sunrisers Hyderabad go unconscious for eight-wicket loss to KKR.
Despite the hindrance, Cummins’ side will have another opportunity to make it into the final as they expect the winner between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an Eliminator clash scheduled for Chennai on Friday.
Unbeaten half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer (51) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (58) helped KKR cruise to a 6.2-over victory margin.
“We will try to put this behind quickly, good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things don’t quite work out. We weren’t where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn’t do much with the ball,” said Cummins during post match presentation.
“Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket. Though KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and wickets got better. We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on,” he said.
Mitchell Starc led an impressive bowling performance with three key dismissals that threw SRH off balance as they could only score below par total of 159 runs before getting all out with just three balls left to finish their innings.
