Chennai Super Kings’ decision to continue with Ajinkya Rahane as an opening batsman has raised suspicions on Akash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer and commentator. CSK suffered a 35-run defeat against the Gujarat Titans last Friday due to Rahane’s less than impressive recent form despite being an experienced player.
Reflecting on the game, Chopra analyzed CSK’s batting line-up and questioned team selection.
“Actually, in this game you didn’t field Richard Gleeson but Rachin Ravindra. It was kind of slapped hitting. They asked him actually to open that game but Rahane started it off with him,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“The next over saw Ajinkya Rahane get out first ball. Ruturaj had played two balls already when he got out for zero and it was 10/3 at this point,” clarified Chopra.
While still looking at reasons behind choosing Ajinkya Lahani, Chopra worried if Ajinkya Rahane should remain in the position or not.
“Didn’t you know about Rahane? Why did you stick with him so long? Sameer Rizvi Could have played in this game,” he continued.
Analyzing CSK’s performance, Chopra accepted that Mohit Sharma bagged three essential wickets within a short time thereby tilting the game to Titans’ favor.
In the final stages of the match, MS Dhoni came into play and caught viewers’ attention by performing some great helicopter sixes as well as making two one-handers which are known for his trademark shots during IPL games
Chopra’s comments underscored how strategic decisions and roles of players are crucial in the IPL.
