Insights into the UKBritish Hindus and Indian organizations staged a protest outside the Oxford Union on Thursday. They objected to the debate titled “The House Believes in the Independent State of Kashmir”, claiming that speakers there had links to terrorism.
The group chanted slogans such as “As we all know, the Oxford Union is on the side of the terrorists” and “Bharat mata ki jai, vande matram”. INSIGHT UK wrote on social media, “Jammu Kashmir is India, Jammu Kashmir is India, Jammu Kashmir will be India.”
The protest follows a letter sent to the Oxford Union by Insight UK on Thursday. The letter raised concerns about two invited speakers, Muzammil Ayub Thakur and Zafar Khan, who supports Kashmir’s independence.
The group claimed that both men were suspected of having links to extremist groups and highlighted allegations of hate speech and incitement against Muzammil Ayub Thakur.
“Insight UK” stated that authorities such as Scotland Yard, the Charity Commission and the FBI investigated Thakur’s organizations “World Kashmir Freedom Movement” and “Charity Global” for potential links with terrorist activities.
The letter also pointed to Zafar Khan’s leadership in the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), a group accused of violence against Kashmir’s Hindu community and implicated in the 1984 kidnapping and murder of Indian diplomat Ravindra in the UK Ravindra Mhatre incident.
INSIGHT UK describes itself as a social movement focusing on issues affecting Hindu and Indian communities in the UK.
