The 24-year-old Proteas participated in the auction with a base price of Rs 125 crore, inviting Punjab, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians to play a three-way match.
Punjab eventually purchased Jansen’s services over the Titans for NT$70 million.
Jansen, who is 2.06 meters tall, has been a member of the IPL since 2021.
The lanky all-rounder started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians and played for them for two seasons.
Afterwards, Jensen moved to Sunriser Hotel Hyderabad and feature them in the 2023 and 2024 editions.
In the IPL, Jansen has played 21 matches so far in which he has 20 wickets with an RPO economy of 9.53.
Jansen’s towering height naturally made him a fast bowler, but his journey actually began as a batsman.
Marco’s father, Koos Jansen, along with his twin brother Duan, nurtured his talent.
At just 17 years old, the twins got the chance to bowl to the touring Indian team, with Marco’s pace and accuracy catching the attention of stars like Virat Kohli.
Janssen’s progress continued when he toured India with the South Africa Under-19 team in 2019.
In 2021, Jansen earned a spot in the South Africa Test squad and later signed his first IPL contract with MI.
