Sudha Murthy, a renowned writer and philanthropist, who is also a member of the Bundestag, once narrated her experience when she received a call from the former President APJ Abdul Kalam out of nowhere. Initial misunderstanding was that it was meant for her husband Narayana Murthy hence, she told to the operator that it was “wrong number.”
And now in X she shared some conversation which happened during one show. Her letter contains these words: “One day I got a call saying Abdul Kalam wants to talk to you. But because I had no connection with Abdul Kalam I said wrong number to them. So I don’t know if any errors exist.
“I told the operator that this must be Narayana Murthy’s number; you were not connected to Mr. Murthy, but Mrs. Murthy,” she said.
“No, no. He (Abdul Kalam) said it specifically for Mrs. Murthy,” according to Sudha Murthy quoting the phone operator.
However, despite all that has been said by Sudha Murthy about whom the call was intended for, the telephone operator still maintained that it should go through Mrs. Murthy. There were many questions in Sudha’s mind on why Abdul Kalam made a call at this time of hour using her line? She feared thinking about what she had done during his time of calling her.
Turns out he had read one of her articles on IT divide and wanted to commend her for writing such good work on this topic as his way of saying thank you.. The column was described by him as “outstanding” and he mentioned casually , how he always reads what she writes.
Elsewhere in her column Sudha Murthy related an interesting incident with a fruit-seller When I buy fruits they cost 100 rupees each).
