“We don’t believe in following trends”
Rahul says that while the band’s music and sound continue to evolve, “we don’t believe in following any trends; we stick to our own path.” In fact, we ignore trends. Currently, electronic music or rap music is very popular. But Hamala style Hi Nashi Hai. We write songs in our style and believe that unless we like them, the audience won’t like it.

Tabla player Tuheen Chakravorty added: “We never realized the need to change music to stay relevant. We focused on making music and thanking the audience for liking it.
“Only those who like our music will come to see our movies”
The band has largely chosen to remain independent, writing for only a few films over the years. Rahul said, “Koi aaye hamare paas offer leke, hum kyu nahi karenge? We are not trying to stay away from Bollywood. But only those who like our music will approach us. No one will come to us for the item number. I am very I admire people like AR Rahman who can create all kinds of music. It’s a different skill that we don’t really try to develop because we are happy doing our own music like we did for Masaan.. That’s probably why we get less offers in Bollywood. Also, we lived in Delhi and never wanted to move (to Mumbai) because becoming film and music stars was not our goal. Amit Killam added: “I didn’t really plan our future but I really wanted to make a song that would shift people’s attention to the environment.”
Tuheen added, “Ajay-Atul did Chikni Chameli and Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin for the same film (Agneepath). But that didn’t work for us.
“When someone leaves, it’s hard to find a replacement.”
Over the years, many members of the Indian Ocean have left. Rahul said, “The biggest change was in the first year. I joined in 1991 and Amit Kilam joined in 1994. Asheem passed away in 2009 and it was very difficult to replace him. In 2010, Tuheen joined us. Everyone joined us The guys in the band all bring their own stuff. I can’t expect Tuheen to play like Asheem, and that’s not the way we’re exploring new things with the new members. The band’s sound is also constantly changing and I feel it’s necessary; we can’t continue to clone our music.
Speaking about creative differences, he added: “In a band, everyone has their own ego and you tend to like your own ideas. But you have to separate the ideas from the people. For us, the songs are who we are The primary focus and nothing else is more important than that if an idea doesn’t work, we move on.

“Streaming is good for companies, but it doesn’t do much for artists.”
Rahul Ram said, “Streaming has reduced the income of musicians. It is a myth that streaming helps artists. They are paid very little and only companies benefit from it. We have done this throughout the year through The revenue from streaming is probably equivalent to one or two shows, so unless we play live, we don’t make a proper salary. Earlier, physical copies of the CD were sold, and you could get digital. Now, not even the exact numbers have been revealed to us. Essentially, performing live and writing music for movies is the only way for musicians to make a decent income.
As for usage and possible risks Artificial intelligence in music“, he added, “Only time will tell whether artificial intelligence is good or bad. Even computerized music was considered inauthentic and artificial when it emerged. But eventually a middle ground emerged, and live music still isn’t dead. It’s too early to comment on artificial intelligence.
