Rahul Dravid, the former coach of India, talks about how the support staff kept up with the positive team dynamics that had been created in India in the 2023 ODI world cup via into the T20 world cup campaign.
He stressed that this constant approach was instrumental in breaking Indian cricket teams’ ICC tournament jinx. Under Dravid’s strategic guidance, India won the T20 World Cup held in Americas, which was a great achievement just before he quit as head coach in June.
“At Ceat Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai, PTI quotes Dravid,” answered byRahul Prasad. “I did not want to do anything differently. We ran an absolutely outstanding campaign, we Rohit and everyone associated with it; it has been a tremendous campaign for us.”
India lost out to Australia after a thrilling One Day International World Cup final at Ahmedabad.
Dravid said: “We couldn’t have done more than we did as far as our preparation was concerned. For ten straight games against what you needed to do for execution and planning and win the game we won, play like we played,”
As a native of Bengaluru, he claimed that he and other coaches were determined to continue maintaining their friendly training room environment.
“I don’t want to change anything. If you had asked me and we had a conversation within our support staff, like what do you guys think we should be doing differently?”
“We need to do exactly what we did…” He told them: “…create energy again…bring back vibe…like same way this team used to be…and maybe this time if fate lets us down a little bit we can get lucky on day.”
Although he has never played world cups limited overs formats but under his coaching appointment the excitement was all felt back home in India.
“To see people’s happiness and enthusiasm across this country… It is one thing I have never experienced before playing in a world cup in India. But this feeling of being a coach and going from town to town, just walking around and seeing what cricket means for the people in this country is really incredible. It was an unbelievable experience.”
Dravid admitted that Australia were simply better than them in the ODI World Cup final.
“I thought we had run an awesome program. I reached my limit at the end and they played better cricket than us on the day, so Australia was a superior team, congratulations (to them). It happens like that in sports; that’s what sport is all about.”
