NEW DELHI: Chahal got rid of Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh (26) in Guwahati IPL game by pulling off a swirling and tumbling superb catch.
At first, it seemed as though Chahal had fluffed an attempt to take the skier that came from the top edge of Prabhsimran’s bat. However, while falling down, he managed to hold on to the ball much to the surprise of his Rajasthan Royals teammates and the bowler Trent Boult.
This happened in the opening over of Punjab’s chase when Prabhsimran tried flicking Boult through square leg but only got a top edge which went straight up and towards short third-man.
Chahal who was positioned inside the circle back pedalled all over with his eyes only fixed at that ball. While diving forward, he used reverse cup taking catch as the balls landed into his hands.
The wicket of Prabhsimran marked a record 28th instance where Boult has picked a wicket in IPLs first over since their inception.
Earlier, Punjab kept Royals to 144-9.
Riyan Parag scored 48 off 34 balls for Royals on a difficult track while Punjab captain Sam Curran (2/24), Harshal Patel (2/28), Nathan Ellis (1/24) and Rahul Chahar (2/26) were all spot on for Punjab Kings.
PBKS have already been eliminated this season while RR are playing for pride.
