France will be deploying a group of highly-skilled dogs from all over India’s Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and special commandos towards various impending venues to secure Paris Olympics set for July 26.
These K9 dog teams and their handlers come from different CAPFs that include Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force, as well as the renowned National Security Guard (NSG), Assam Rifles, Federal Emergency Commandos.
“On request by France Government, our elite team of #K9s were deployed on high profile counter-sabotage mission at #ParisOlympics2024. This historical first for India’s #CAPF demonstrates our strong commitment to global security,” ITBP said via a post on Twitter.
Ten Indian K9 (dog) teams will sniff and patrol around different event venues. For this purpose both units had undergone ten weeks specialized training programs and this is also the first time there has been any collaboration between the canine units of the Indian and French governments.
Mostly strong Belgian Malinois breed of dogs is used in infantry patrols, counter sabotage missions like bomb detection, IEDs & trouble makers etc., during variety of internal security operations in By.
Physical training was given to these ten dog teams’ instructors besides taking them through a capsule course in Basic French language for preparing them to perform Paris Olympic related duties.
This Indian police dog unit is being deployed in accordance with what French police and security agencies require as part of security cooperation between both countries.
India will be represented by 117 athletes at the Olympics.
