Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket captain, might be desiring to use Shivam Dube’s medium pace skills more often in the forthcoming T20 World Cup despite bowling just six overs for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the just concluded IPL season.
India had its first practice session in Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Thursday and will play their only warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1 before starting their campaign with a match versus Ireland on June 5.
Noteworthy at India’s practice was Rohit giving advice to Dube on how to bowl while he bowled with his captain in nets.
In contrast, over 14 matches played during IPL 2024 which ended on May 26, Dube rolled out only one over. This over cost him fourteen runs as well as a wicket.
Dube batting left-handedly was therefore simply asked by CSK to go after spinners when they come to bowl at some point during the middle overs, and he did it efficiently. It is possible that India might also follow suit for that matter given the anticipated slow turning tracks of West Indies.
With one not-out innings of 66 being his top score, Dube amassed a total of 396 runs in his fourteen outings during IPL2024 at an impressive strike rate of 162.30. He made three fifties.
Nevertheless, Rohit has other reasons of using him besides his batting alone as India looks forward to ending an eleven-year-long wait for another ICC trophy.
