In the IPL 2024, Virat Kohli’s slog sweep earned him a lot of runs but the star RCB batter perished to the same shot failing to execute it against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Wednesday.
Kohli seemed set for a large knock (33 off 24) but his innings was nipped in the bud by Yuzvendra Chahal, one of those who are teasing and crafty players, in just eight overs.
It was deep midwicket where Chahal managed to get the RCB mainstay caught; Donovan Ferreira, who had been fielding as substitute for Himanshu Rana while he went out with an injury, took an extraordinary catch above his head.
Kevin Pietersen made this suggestion about Kohli after he got out saying that as a former RCB captain he should keep playing slog-sweep which helped him increase his strike-rate.
“Keep playing. Know that every single time you do that you walk into this risk; there’s a reason why it is called risky,” Pietersen said on-air.
“He has played it with freedom. He started struggling. People were worried about him batting in middle overs.”
Additionally, ex-England skipper had something to say to Kohli about T20 World Cup emphasizing that once he will start playing for India again he should not abandon this shot.
“That one dismissal would make Kohli absolutely fume at himself. He wanted to play something substantial tonight when all eyes were on him and his team. Keep playing it. His strike rate this season has increased because of that shot considerably.
“He doesn’t have to park it; through June, just keep doing what he did there,” concluded Pietersen.
