Virat Kohli, the renowned Indian batsman, arrived in Delhi on a Thursday morning and went home to celebrate his T20 World Cup win with his family.
India clinched its second T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa in Barbados final by 7 runs on Saturday. After this victory Kohli retired from T20 cricket.
Although he had only 75 runs across the first seven innings of the tournament, Kohli’s performance reached its peak at critical moments. In the final he made 76 off 59 balls including six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 128.81 making significant contributions to India’s total score.
He scored 151 runs in eight innings throughout the tournament, averaging at 18.87 and striking at over a hundred with a half century inclusive.

On their arrival back in Delhi, fans were excitedly waiting for the Champions and hoping to catch a glimpse of the trophy as they returned. There was delay in departure of BCCI’S Hourglass Flight from Barbados cause by Hurricane Beryl; it was category four hurricane that close Grantley Adams International Airport Bridgetown for three days.
The flight back to Delhi was arranged by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah who left Bridgetown shortly past midnight on July2; He brought along with him players’ families, support staffs, team members as well as journalists who report about cricket.
India defeated South Africa by seven runs finally ended a thirteen-year wait for an ICC Trophy through winning final match against them. Among some standout performances included Kohli’s knock of 76 while Hardik Pandya took three wickets for twenty runs plus Bumrah’s two for 18 which restricted South Africa to just 169/8. Bumrah emerged as the “Player of the Tournament” with his economy rate of 4.17 and 15 wickets.
As such, starting at five o’clock in the evening, Rohit Sharma-led team will undertake an open bus parade through Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium iconic passages in Mumbai. This is an event that allows fans to participate and congratulate the team on a great achievement of winning T20 World Cup.
