During his stay with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Yash Dayal, an upcoming fast bowler, has praised Virat Kohli, India’s leading batter for the way he helped him build confidence.
Dayal explained how Kohli’s support made him comfortable in a recent Sports Tak interview. This gave Dayal assurance that he was accepted into the team and would be supported throughout the whole season by Kohli.
He recalled with pleasure what Kohli had said to him which had a great influence on him.
“The biggest thing he (Kohli) said to me was that he will back me the whole season,” Dayal mentioned. This guarantee from Kohli enabled Dayal to adapt quickly and perform well. With encouragement and support from Kohli, it no longer felt like a hostile environment to him.
For Dayal, it was Kohli’s attitude toward young players that impressed most of all. He said that media misrepresents this when they write “…He talks to the youngsters in such a very healthy way.” The freshers got support from their captain because of such kind of behavior shown by him. The Indian skipper is unlike his feared image on TV claimed Dayal.
“Let me tell you one thing; I never feel like I have come to some other place; this was a huge boost up for me because he did not serve anything else but what we needed right now and I have seen the stuff you are talking about,” Dayal revealed during his chat with Sports Tak.
By using childhood memories as an example, Dayal showed how much positive impact Kholi has on young cricketers. The simple words of reassurance and warmth enable new team members to really succeed under Kholi’s guidance.
