It’s not that different from cloth Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Yes, Both men like to speak up for their nations, and they are not shy of expressing their happiness and despair even in the public eye. However, Gambhir’s entrance into the Indian dressing room as a head coach is a turning point in their tense relations.
On Tuesday, BCCI confirmed this expectation by promoting Gambhir to be the team’s new head coach replacing Rahul Dravid who left after winning T20 World Cup.
No coach or player likes losing a match but for Gambill it goes even further coming with fervent patriotism for his countrymen in his mouth.
Again, neither is Gambhir different from Kohli nor vice versa, except he must have become more experienced. The duo that has had a mentality of “not losing” on field in many occasions and that has led these two to compete against each other in more than one occasion during the Indian Premier League Matches.
When these things come together for a common goal – to win matches and trophies for India – it can make the team invincible across all formats; Kohli only plays tests and ODIs but opts out of T20Is
But there will be some time before Gambhir and Kohli meet in the dressing room.
The first assignment for Gambhir is Sri Lanka white-ball tour where captain Rohit Sharma including Kohli are likely to be rested by BCCI so as to stay fresh ahead of next season.
Therefore, when Bangladesh comes to India for Test series, it could well be the beginning of a new era between these two players.
In 2011 World Cup victory both were teammates who wouldn’t mind repeating that feat again in contrasting guises.
